Is the Chevy Trailblazer reliable? 3-cylinder, warranty and used checklist

By Cory Gunderson, Internet Sales & Finance Manager, Swant Graber Chevrolet, 1690 E Division Ave, Barron WI · 715-537-5657

The 3-cylinder question

Every Trailblazer since 2021 uses a turbocharged 3-cylinder (1.2L 137 hp or 1.3L 155 hp). Small turbo engines reward maintenance: use the specified dexos oil, follow the Oil Life Monitor (shorten it for lots of short winter trips), and check the level between changes. Run the VIN for open recalls on any used unit.

Factory warranty

  • Bumper-to-bumper: 3 years/36,000 miles
  • Powertrain: 5 years/60,000 miles
  • Roadside assistance and corrosion coverage per GM terms

Keeping it longer? A GM extended service plan can be added at signing — see extended coverage and GAP.

Used Trailblazer checklist

  • Service records showing regular oil changes
  • Recall status by VIN
  • AWD units: smooth 9-speed shifts, no clunks engaging AWD
  • Tires matched on all four corners (AWD)
  • Look for a CarBravo certified unit for added coverage

Remote start and heated features by trim

LS: limited options. LT: Cold Weather package (heated front seats and steering wheel) and remote start availability. RS/ACTIV: heated seats standard or packaged, with more convenience content. Exact content varies by year — check the sticker; see packages explained.
