How to choose a trim
Active 100A vs 200A
Both have the same engine, screen, driver-assist suite and tow package. The 200A is the one we recommend for Wisconsin because heated front seats arrive here, along with the power liftgate and roof rails. The step is about $1,935.
ST-Line: the value pick
ST-Line adds the items people miss most in January: a heated wheel and the 360 camera for tight parking lots and boat ramps. It keeps the 2.3L, so it tows the same 5,000 lb as every other Explorer.
Tremor: for roads, not rock crawling
Tremor is the gravel-road, lake-access, unplowed-driveway Explorer. It is 4WD only. The 800A uses the 2.3L; 801A adds the V6 for $56,460. See Tremor explained.
Platinum vs ST
Platinum is the comfort trim and, new for 2027, can be ordered with the V6. ST is the performance trim with the V6 standard plus brakes and suspension to match. If you want V6 power with a softer ride, a V6 Platinum is now the answer.
Options worth knowing for 2027
- Panoramic Vista Roof returns on 4WD models (standalone on Active, ST-Line, Platinum; in the Sun and Sound Package on Tremor and ST).
- Slick roof (roof-rail delete) on Active, ST-Line and Platinum.
- Universal garage door opener is a $145 option; new Security Package.
Equipment groups and ordering
Explorer orders are built around equipment groups (100A, 200A, 800A, 801A and the trim groups). If the exact build is not in stock, we can submit a factory order — see the factory order timeline — or locate one from another dealer. Equipment summaries can change during the model year, so ask us for a priced build before you commit.
Seats and towing by trim
Every trim tows 5,000 lb properly equipped. Captain’s chairs are standard; the 7-seat bench is available on every trim except Tremor. BlueCruise is standard on Platinum and ST, available on ST-Line and Tremor. More: seats & cargo · towing & winter.
