The short answer
The 2027 Silverado HD swaps the 2026's 6.6L Duramax (470 hp, 975 lb-ft, up to 36,000 lb towing) for an all-new 8.3L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 rated 555 hp and 1,230 lb-ft, with up to 38,000 lb of towing and 6,170 lb of payload. The gas engine is an enhanced 6.6L V8 (412 hp, 472 lb-ft; up to 19,000 lb towing and 6,990 lb payload). Electric power steering and eBoost braking are new. Chevrolet lists it as available late 2026, with pricing to come.
For Barron County plow and camper owners, the practical changes are the higher diesel rating, Tow/Haul mode that adds steering damping, and diesel exhaust braking with the Allison 10-speed, per Chevrolet. Trims are WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country; Trail Boss is now offered on Custom.

What it means for towing and plowing
- Fifth-wheel and gooseneck: the higher rating needs the right configuration. Check the exact truck's GCWR and rear-axle rating, and see whether the combination needs a CDL in Wisconsin.
- Payload: the gas truck lists the higher payload (6,990 lb vs. 6,170 lb). For a plow or slide-in camper, payload often matters more than towing.
- Off-road: ZR2 gets a 1.5-in lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers and 35-in tires; Trail Boss is now on Custom.
Buy a 2026 now or wait for a 2027?
There is no single right answer, and we'd rather help you compare than push either one:
A 2026 makes sense if
- You need a truck this season (plowing, a camper trip, a job starting)
- A 2026 in stock already has the equipment you want
- You prefer a design that has been on the road for a while
Waiting for a 2027 makes sense if
- The 2027 change matters to how you use the truck (engine, towing tech, payload)
- You can wait until 2027 models are on our lot and priced
- You want to compare window stickers side by side
Either way, ask us for the window sticker on the exact truck and an itemized out-the-door quote (estimate it here).
