How the Equinox hitch works for 2027
1. Add it to your order or purchase
Tell us you want the GM Trailering Package (PCH). It includes the trailer hitch (SDE) and the exterior molding kit (5KE) that fits the rear fascia.
2. We install it here
GM ships the Equinox without the hitch, even on a factory order. Our service department installs GM's package before you pick it up.
3. Tow within the rating
Up to 1,500 lb total trailer weight. Keep tongue weight and cargo inside the limits on the door-jamb label.

A 4x6 or 5x8 utility trailer with yard waste or firewood, a single-sled snowmobile trailer, a small aluminum fishing boat.

Campers, pontoons, car haulers and enclosed trailers. Those need a Colorado, Silverado or Traverse.

How much can a Chevy Equinox tow?
Up to 1,500 lb when properly equipped, per Chevrolet. On 2027 that applies to FWD and AWD; the hitch is installed by the dealer.
What engine and transmission does the Equinox have?
Every Equinox uses a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder, 175 hp and 203 lb-ft. 2025-2026 FWD models use a CVT and AWD models an 8-speed automatic; for 2027 every Equinox, FWD or AWD, uses the 8-speed automatic.
How much can a Chevy Equinox tow?
The 2027 Equinox is rated at up to 1,500 lb, FWD or AWD, when properly equipped with GM's trailering equipment. A 2026 FWD with the CVT is rated at 800 lb; a 2026 AWD at 1,500 lb.
Does the 2027 Equinox come with a trailer hitch?
Not from the factory. The GM Trailering Package (PCH) is a dealer-installed option. Even when it's on a factory order, GM doesn't install it at the plant; Swant Graber installs it before you take delivery.
How much is the Equinox trailer hitch?
GM lists the Trailering Package (hitch plus the rear exterior molding kit) at $1,095 MSRP. Ask us for the installed price on your vehicle.
What can an Equinox tow?
At 1,500 lb: a small utility trailer, a single snowmobile or ATV trailer, a small fishing boat, or a bike rack or cargo carrier. Not a camper or a pontoon.
Can I flat-tow an Equinox behind a motorhome?
No. GM says the Equinox can't be dinghy-towed.
Do I need the dealer to install the hitch?
On a 2027 we install GM's package, which includes the molding kit that fits the rear fascia. Aftermarket hitches exist, but the GM package is what we install and stand behind.
