The short answer

Answer

Both 2026 manuals say to change the oil when the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor message appears, within two weeks or 500 miles, at intervals of up to one year or 10,000 miles. Cabin air filters are every 20,000 miles, engine air filters every 30,000 miles and spark plugs every 100,000 miles (60,000 in severe service).

Automatic transmission fluid is at 150,000 miles on both. The Expedition also lists front axle and transfer case fluid (4WD) and rear axle fluid at 150,000 miles, and transfer case fluid at 60,000 miles in severe service, which covers frequent towing.

Towing with an Expedition

Ford counts towing as severe driving. On an Expedition that tows a camper or boat, the severe-service column moves transfer case fluid to every 60,000 miles and spark plugs to every 60,000 miles. Ford also says axle and transfer case fluid should be checked if the unit has been submerged, such as at a boat launch.

What Ford counts as severe

Ford's manuals count short trips of less than 5–10 miles, temperatures well below or above average, dusty conditions, idling more than recommended and driving with a heavy load or towing as severe driving. In a Barron County winter, the cold-temperature and short-trip items describe a lot of vehicles, so follow the severe-service lines in the table if they fit how you drive.
