Short answer: Every Maverick tows 2,000 lb. Only an AWD XL, XLT or Lariat with the 4K Tow Package tows 4,000 lb. FWD Mavericks, the Lobo and the Tremor are all 2,000 lb. Max payload is 1,500 lb; hybrid AWD is reported around 1,400 lb.

What the 4K Tow Package adds
Ford lists a trailer brake controller. Ford Authority reports it also includes a Class III hitch with 2-inch receiver, 4- and 7-pin connectors, a transmission oil cooler, an upgraded fan and a full-size spare. On 2026 it required Ford Co-Pilot360; for 2027 that requirement is reported dropped, so it's a standalone option.

Tongue weight (about 10–15% of the trailer) counts against payload along with passengers and cargo. A 4,000-lb trailer can put 400–600 lb on the hitch — on a ~1,400-lb hybrid AWD with four adults, you'll be close. Check the door-jamb sticker.
