What Tremor doesn't do
- No MAX length.
- No 4x2.
- Not a Raptor-style desert truck: passive shocks, not adaptive long-travel.
- All-terrain tires are louder on the highway than a Platinum's road tires.
Tremor in a Wisconsin winter
For deer-camp roads, unplowed field drives and the lake access that never gets sanded, Tremor's clearance, locker and A/T tires are a real advantage. The 3PMSF rating on any tire matters more than the badge on the door — check before winter. See 4WD modes in winter.
Tremor or Platinum with the High Output V6?
If you want the 440-hp engine for towing and passing but live on pavement, Platinum 4x4 with Stealth Performance (19B) or Ultimate (17A) gets the same engine with a road-focused setup. If you'll leave the pavement, Tremor.
How the Tremor actually performs off-road
Ford lists about 10.6 in of running ground clearance on Tremor vs about 8.7 in on other trims, 275/70R18 all-terrain tires, Raptor-derived skid plates, a 3.73 electronic locking rear differential and Rock Crawl mode. That makes it genuinely capable on two-tracks in the Chequamegon, flooded field roads and deep snow; it is still a big, long SUV, so tight wooded trails will pinstripe it.
| Tremor vs Active (Ford) | Tremor | Active |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 440 hp / 510 lb-ft HO | 400 hp / 480 lb-ft |
| Ground clearance | ~10.6 in | ~8.7 in |
| Tires | 275/70R18 A/T | 265/70R18 A/T |
| Rear diff | E-locker 3.73 | Open |
| Body | Std only | Std or MAX |
Tremor and towing
Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow is standard on Tremor; the A/T tires and HO motor do not raise the rating above the standard 4x4 maximum. See the towing guide.
