Used Ram 1500: a year-by-year guide for Stellantis Certified Pre-Owned shoppers

Which engines and transmissions each year had, what EPA rates them, and which used Ram 1500 can be Stellantis certified.

The short answer

Answer

EPA lists 12 engine versions for the Ram 1500 across 2016–2026. Match the VIN to the right row before you compare prices.

A used Ram 1500 can be Stellantis certified: CPOV (five model years or newer, under 75,000 miles; 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain plus 3 months/3,000 miles Maximum Care) or CPO Go (6–10 model years and/or 75,001–120,000 miles). Swant Graber Motors participates in the Stellantis Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program: Swant Graber Motors (Chevrolet, Ram, Dodge), 1690 E Division Ave, Barron, 715-537-5657.

From 2019 Ram sold the redesigned 1500 alongside the older 1500 Classic, so both appear in the same years; Classic rows are labeled. TRX is left out. MPG is EPA combined. "—" means EPA lists no version in that column, or (recalls) the year is outside our 2017–2025 NHTSA pull. Recall counts are campaigns for the model and year (all trims); a specific vehicle may not be affected.

Where the lineup changed

  • 2019: adds 3.0L 6-cyl turbo diesel (Classic), 3.6L 6-cyl (Classic), 3.6L 6-cyl eTorque mild hybrid, 3.6L 6-cyl hybrid, 5.7L 8-cyl (Classic), 5.7L 8-cyl eTorque mild hybrid; drops 3.0L 6-cyl turbo diesel, 3.6L 6-cyl.

What to check on a used Ram 1500

  • Best EPA combined rating in the 4WD/AWD column: 24 MPG (2023, 3.0L 6-cyl turbo diesel). Winter mileage in northwest Wisconsin runs lower.
  • Hybrid versions: EPA lists a hybrid Ram 1500 in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.
  • Match the VIN to the right row. The engine is coded in the VIN and printed on the original window sticker; ask us to decode it.
  • Recalls: per-year campaign detail is in our used Ram 1500 recalls by year guide. Run the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls on any used vehicle.
  • CPOV or CPO Go? Five model years or newer with under 75,000 miles points to CPOV (with 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage); 6–10 model years and/or 75,001–120,000 miles points to CPO Go. The certificate on the vehicle shows the tier.

Stellantis Certified Pre-Owned: which tier?

Swant Graber Motors participates in the Stellantis Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program. CPOV is for vehicles five model years or newer with under 75,000 miles (7-year/100,000-mile powertrain from the original in-service date plus 3 months/3,000 miles of Maximum Care). CPO Go covers 6–10 model years and/or 75,001–120,000 miles (3 months/3,000 miles of Maximum Care). CPO Gold carries 12 months/12,000 miles of Extended Care Premium coverage. Ram lists a $100 deductible per covered repair. Stellantis doesn't publish a return or exchange program for certified vehicles. We sell new Dodge and Ram only, not Chrysler or Jeep. Used vehicles that aren't certified get our coverage: 45 days / 5,000 miles powertrain, on used units 10 model years or newer with under 150,000 miles. See dealer for details.
