2026 Ram 1500 maintenance schedule, from the owner handbook

What Ram's own handbook says, and why towing, short trips and Wisconsin cold can bring service sooner.

Buyer's guide: Ram 1500 Buyer's Guide (2026–2027) (trims, towing, mpg, 2026 vs. 2027, used years and certified options; verified October 22, 2026)

The short answer

Answer

The 2026 Ram 1500 owner handbook says to change the oil and filter when the "Oil Change Required" message appears, within the next 500 miles, and never to exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 hours of engine run time, whichever comes first. It notes that frequent short trips, trailer towing and extremely hot or cold temperatures bring the message sooner.

Other handbook items include rotating the tires every 10,000 miles or when tread depth differs by 2/32 in. or more, changing the brake fluid every 24 months, and spark plugs at 60,000 miles (3.0L) or 100,000 miles (5.7L).

When to service sooner

The handbook says more frequent maintenance may be needed in severe conditions such as dusty areas and very short trips, and it calls for axle-fluid changes on trucks used for frequent trailer towing, off-road, police, taxi or fleet use. A truck that tows a camper all summer and idles at the ice-fishing access all winter is not "normal" use.
