The 2027 Super Duty comes in five trims (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum) across F-250, F-350 and F-450, and Ford's 2027 order guide makes 4x4 standard from King Ranch up and opens the Tremor Off-Road Package to every trim.

For 2027 Ford simplified the Super Duty to two engines: the standard 7.3L gas V8, which carries the most payload (up to 7,900 lbs), and the optional 6.7L High Output Power Stroke diesel, which tows up to 40,000 lbs with a gooseneck when properly equipped.

- The 7.3L is now prepped for CNG/propane conversion as standard (package 99N).
- Pro Power Onboard: 400W outlets available; 2kW available (requires the dual-battery/alternator setup in the order guide).
- Heavy-duty pickups over 8,500 lbs GVWR aren't EPA fuel-economy rated, so Ford doesn't publish EPA mpg for Super Duty.
- Big trailers: towing a fifth-wheel or gooseneck over 10,000 lbs

Used Super Duty: generations and years to target
The current Super Duty generation is the all-new 2023 truck; 2017–2022 trucks are the first aluminum-body generation, and 2020 added the 7.3L gas V8, so a 2020-or-newer truck is the shortest list for gas towing.

The short answer
Ford says it is making the 7.3L V8 "the standard gas engine across our Super Duty lineup" for 2027 and the 6.7L High Output Power Stroke the standard diesel. That drops the 2026's 6.8L gas V8 (405 hp, 445 lb-ft) and the standard-output 6.7L diesel (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft). The 7.3L is rated 430 hp and 485 lb-ft; the HO diesel 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft.
Other 2027 changes Ford has published: Tremor on XL with the STX Appearance Package and on 8-ft-box trucks, an XL Off-Road 35-inch tire package, Platinum on F-350–F-550 chassis cabs and a Carhartt edition. Ford's 2026 towing guide lists up to 8,000 lb of gas payload (2026, 6.8L gas V8, Ford 2026 Super Duty Towing Guide) with the 6.8L; that figure applies to 2026 trucks only.

What it means for plow and camper buyers
- Payload: engine weight affects payload. Until Ford publishes 2027 ratings, compare the door-jamb label on the exact truck rather than a 2026 brochure figure.
- 2026 trucks in stock may still have the 6.8L. If a lighter gas engine and its payload suit a plow truck, a 2026 is worth a look.
- Diesel buyers get the HO engine by default for 2027. Ford hasn't published 2027 pricing in a source we could verify; compare window stickers.
